Florida pool decks take more punishment than almost any other surface on your property. Between UV exposure, chlorinated splash water, and barefoot traffic, the original surface deteriorates faster here than anywhere else in the country. Here are the resurfacing options that actually work in our climate.
Cool-Deck Coatings
The most popular option for Florida pools. Cool-deck coatings are textured acrylic finishes that stay 30-40% cooler than standard concrete in direct sun. They're slip-resistant when wet, available in dozens of colors, and last 8-12 years before recoating. Cost: $4-8 per square foot.
Acrylic Overlay Systems
A step above cool-deck, acrylic overlays create a new decorative surface on top of existing concrete. They can mimic stone, tile, or custom patterns. Thicker than cool-deck (1/8" vs surface coating), they hide minor imperfections and cracks. Cost: $6-12 per square foot.
Stamped Concrete Overlay
For pool decks that need both structural repair and aesthetic upgrade, a stamped concrete overlay adds 1/4" to 3/8" of new concrete on top of the existing slab. This is the most durable option and offers the widest range of patterns. Cost: $8-15 per square foot.
Travertine Pavers
Natural travertine is the premium choice for high-end Florida pools. It's naturally cool underfoot, slip-resistant when wet, and has an unmistakable luxury appearance. Individual pavers can be replaced if damaged. Cost: $15-30 per square foot installed.
What We Recommend
For most South Florida homeowners, a cool-deck or acrylic overlay provides the best balance of performance, appearance, and value. If your existing slab has structural issues, a stamped overlay addresses both problems at once.
